Intelligent electricity distribution: hand in hand, step by step
The overriding aim of the E-DeMa project is to link the fields of energy trading, energy management and information and communication technology (IKT) and thus create E-Energy.
E-DeMa is split into a total of ten work packages: eight work packages have a scientific-technical focus (AP 1 - 8), AP 9 and AP 10 on the other hand are of an administrative nature.
The task calls for an intensive cooperation and close relationships between the work packages (see illustration).

The sub-tasks of the individual work packages (AP):
AP 1: Definition of the general framework and theoretical description of the E-Energy marketplace in its legal and economic dimensions. The functional scope of the planned research and development activities is defined in this work package through the specification of market functions, market rules and products. The results thus affect all other APs.
AP 2: Modelling and optimisation of the communication infrastructure for participants in the E-Energy market.
AP 3: Specification of the IKT gateways 1 and 2 and preparation of corresponding requirement specifications.
AP 4: Prototype realisation of the IKT gateway 2, based on the specification of the IKT gateway 2 and the drafted requirement specifications from AP 3.
AP 5: Design of the E-Energy marketplace in view of product definitions, business processes and market incentive mechanisms.
AP 6: Investigation of the effects of grid incentives on the E-Energy marketplace and the use of the IKT-gateway and improved information structure for the operation of the energy grid.
AP 7: Implementation and system integration of an E-Energy marketplace, preparation, adaptation and system integration of a meter data management system.
AP 8: Demonstration of the project results in a model region consisting of three different sub-model regions in the distribution grids Mülheim and Krefeld.
AP 9 (Dissemination: public relations and utilisation) and AP 10 (project management) ensure a smooth process flow for the project as accompanying work packages for processing the E-DeMa results obtained.
The temporal process flow of E-DeMa
Phase 1 will involve the creation of the basis for the project and in particular for the model region in the form of the conceptual designs and specifications. Important milestones are the definition of the E-Energy marketplace (AP 1), the outline of the communication infrastructure (AP 2), the requirement specification for the IKT gateway (AP 3) as well as the system concept for the E-Energy marketplace software (AP 7) including the meter data management. Indicators that allow the quantification of the benefits of an E-Energy market on completion of the project will also be determined in the specification phase.
